Journeys With Nature – 4 Week Course
A four week course that offers a dive into the fundamentals of mindfulness, self-compassion, nature connection practices and the gift of reciprocity.
Each week we will explore aspects of our inner and outer nature through the practises of mindfulness, self- compassion, creativity and nature connections.
We will awaken our senses, moving through the eight key senses in a creative, grounding and inspiring way.
There will be opportunities to share, learn and listen with each other, supporting ourselves as we open up to more healthful, restorative ways of being in the world.
A poem or prose from Clare’s Irish heritage will be woven into each session encouraging delight and creativity as we connect with the natural environment in a simple, mindful and profound way.
The sessions will take place in a specially crafted indoor ‘Forest Room’ and beautiful woodland trail at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags. We will move between the indoor and outdoor spaces throughout each session, weather dependent.

Each week we will follow this format:
– Introductions , warm up circle sharing
– Mindfulness and self- compassion practise.
– Sharing in circle.
– Nature Connection invitation practises.
– Sharing in circle.
– Creative response activity.*
– Tea circle.
– Poetry reading.
*The creative response is an opportunity for the group to respond to the gifts and insights received from the more than human world. This could be a mark making exercise, a free flow drawing, a short poem or prose.
This course will appeal to nature lovers, parents, busy souls and all those who just want to become more mindful, more present and creatively engaged with life.
The course will take place within two locations at Hardcastle Crags. Firstly a specially crafted ‘Forest Room’ at Gibson Mill and secondly a trail I use regularly to the rear of the Mill. A temporary forest room will bring elements from the natural environment indoors; fern, barks, branches, moss, stones etc. Producing a simple multisensory woodland experience. All natural aspects would then be carefully placed back into the woodland on completion of each session.
My intention is to provide a space where participants can experience the natural environment in a innovative, restorative, creative and inclusive way. Enabling a broader reach – as I have found there are barriers for some in accessing the woods and my aim is to experiment with having the options available of indoor provision alongside my usual outdoor location.
We will move between both indoor and outdoor locations depending on group consensus on the session morning and the great Yorkshire weather!
Dates: November 13th, 20th, 27th. December 4th.
Meet at 10.20am at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags. Please be on time!
